Chartiers Branch - Shingiss, PA - Sub-roadbed

The development of the trackplan and the "cookie-cutter" type of sub-roadbed construction method is identical to what was described in greater detail in the Canonsburg page, so I will not repeat it here.

I worked on the right-half of the Shingiss area first. The photo below shows the support blocks for the track and the DCC and accessories wiring installed. The Chartiers Creek will run through part of this module, so I had to press the wires down to the module's bottom. I will have to disguise that in the future when I create the creek. The accessories wires (which have insulation on them) will provide power for the lights of the two Canonsburg industries at the very end of the module.

Next, I attached the MDF sub-roadbed on to the blocks that were glued to the bottom of the module. The parts making up the scenery area are just in there loose so that they can be removed when I get to the track-laying stage. But in the meantime this makes for a more finished look.

Similarly, the left-hand side of this area had its blocks installed. The accessories wires (folded against the back of the module) aren't needed in this module.

And, again, the sub-roadbed MDF was attached with screws to the blocks. The scenery areas were placed back. You can see the faint pencil tracings of where the creek might be. The little cut-out visible at the end of the module is for Washington track that will stretch out over the creek a bit. It will be built on a trestle.

Next, I painted the sub-roadbed to protect its surfaces.
