I decided to give the module some color by covering the non-track areas with a couple of different colors of ground foam by Woodland Scenics. It gives it a more completed look even though it has no track yet. To accomplish this, I covered the surface (small sections at a time) with diluted white glue (50% glue, 50% water), applied with a cheap foam brush. Before the glue dried, I sprinkled brown and various shades of green of the ground foam. I let it dry overnight and vacuumed up the loose foam the next day. Some areas are barren because I didn't get the glue everywhere. These will be covered in the future, but for now it looks nice.
Before I ballasted the track area, I planted some grasses and weeds to make them appear as if they are growing in between the ballast.
Trees for the module were made using the wire frame method. Here you can see several stranded electrical wires formed and shaped to look like a tree. I spray painted the bark on the wire after the tree trunk part of it was soldered together.
I covered this wire frame with green poly fibre and spray it down with spray glue. While the glue was still wet, I lightly sprinkled some Woodland Scenics' green foam to represent leaves.
