I like my layout up high, which is great for viewing "into" the scene. However, while working on a layout that high, it can be hard or awkward. So, I built this simple step stool out of some leftover plywood. It measures 7-1/2" tall, 9-1/2" wide, and 23-1/2" long. The extra length is great for moving slightly to the left or right without stepping or slipping off.
On the bottom I used these individual boards, and I left the ends open, so that there are places where I can grab the step stool. I also noticed that it sometimes would move on the wooden floor in the room, so I installed these vinyl feet. I initially put them about an inch or so away from the edges, but I quickly found out the step would wobble when I stepped near the edge, so I moved them to the very outside corner. That was much safer.
