Structures - Canonsburg Passenger Station - Design

In September 2010, Gary Carmichael took some photos of the passenger station and e-mailed them to me. He subsequently has given me permission to use his photos on my web site. I am extremely grateful to Gary for taking his time to do this. Using Gary's photos I was able to determine the dimensions of the overall structure. Here are my assumptions to come up with the overall dimensions shown in the first diagram: each brick measures 8.75" x 2.75", with one layer of mortar on one side, that measurement comes out to 9.25" wide by 3.25" tall. Using that I was able to use his close-up photos to count bricks and determine the width and height of each section of the building. If anyone has more accurate measurements, I would be very glad to .

From left to right, I will show the photos I have. On the left side of the building is a 32-inch wide column. The enclosed area used to be an open breeze way. The breeze way was enclosed in the 1960s because a fitness center bought the structure and needed the space. This is according to a gentleman who informed me that his uncle and father did the construction work during that remodel. This means that my 1950 model will need to be modeled with an open breeze way.

Next is, what I presume to be, the waiting area with four windows.

The protruding, bay-window area was presumably the ticket office.

The right-most area I presume was the baggage area with its door and two windows.
